International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) The City University of New York (CUNY) is the home to approximately 10,000+ international students in F and J status representing more than 100 countries. The University values its diversified student population and strongly believes that providing high quality services is an integral part of the students’ learning process. To this end, CUNY is committed to creating a supportive environment that is conducive to the academic and cultural needs of the international student population at each of the 19 CUNY colleges. The area of International Student and Scholar Services strives to position CUNY as a “World-Class” institution by ensuring the University's compliance with all SEVIS: Student Exchange Visitor Information requirements and other immigration related regulations as mandated by the federal government. ISSS officials are charged with the responsibility of providing international student advisors with services and professional development opportunities critical to their daily operations. The Office supports the international student population by providing centralized immigration information pertinent to their status maintenance, and to enhance an easy transition into the American higher education system. Cross-cultural workshops/forums are also provided to equip students with the essential knowledge, awareness, and skills needed to integrate them into the American culture. The staff also initiates, coordinates, and sponsors student development activities around issues that will enable them to become effective global citizens in the current global environment.
